Microeconomics – ECO 201

Microeconomics is an introductory course that describes the nature and scope of economics, as well as the consumer behavior and decision making under different constraints, namely income, and utility. Finally, the last part tackles the theory of the firm, producer behavior, allocation of resources, and price determination under a set of constraints and under different markets structures.

The course aims to introduce the concept of managing operations. It provides students with a critical understanding of the scope and strategic importance of operations management as it applies to a variety of businesses and organizations. Information provided is applicable to companies in both manufacturing and service industries. Students will explore how operations managers can help in building the competitive strength and thus increasing customer satisfaction and profitability of their companies. The course covers topics such as: operations management and performance, Operations Strategy, product and service management, process design, forecasting, capacity planning, process selection and facility layout, location planning and analysis, supply chain management, inventory management, JIT & lean operations, quality management, and project management. Since operations management is a practical subject and cannot be taught satisfactorily in a purely theoretical manner, many case studies will be discussed during the course.

The ophthalmology course will help equip family physicians and general practitioners with an updated planned and structured approach to evaluating patients with ocular complaints.

Principles of Management – MGT 201

The course introduces the concept of management, specifically its history and philosophy. Students will study the basic functions of management and will be exposed to modern management practices, current events, problem solving, and ethical dilemmas. The course introduces topics such as decision-making, strategic and operational planning, organizational structure, human resource management, leadership, and control techniques.

Specifically, students learn how to write and orally present different forms of workplace documents in Arabic.
